One of the rules most easily confused is the difference between escort cards vs place cards. Many people use those two terms interchangeably, when they are actually very different. Let us explain.
Escort Cards
You’ve spent hours on your seating chart, so the last thing you want is for your guests not to know where they are supposed to sit. Escort cards take all of the worry out of seating your guests. Displayed at the entrance to your reception area, escort cards include the names of your guests and the tables you have assigned them. They can be creased, or flat, and displayed any number of ways. So get creative! You’ll want to make sure your guests are able to find their names quickly, so they can find their seat and get right out on the dance floor!
Place Cards
Now that you have learned the difference between escort cards vs place cards, you need to decide if you need one, the other, or both. This is entirely dependent on the size of your wedding, and the formality. If you have specific places you would prefer your guests to sit, we would recommend doubling up with both escort and place cards. If you just want to direct them to a certain table and let them chose their seat from there, then the escort card is the way to go. Or if you are having an intimate gathering where the escort card isn’t necessary, but seats are still assigned, then place cards are the choice for you!
